350 years

Launching of the new season and 350th anniversary of the Paris Opera

In 2019, the Paris Opera will be celebrating a double anniversary: that of the signing, in 1669, of the letters patent authorizing Perrin to establish an Academy of Opera – rapidly named the Royal Academy of Music – and that of the inauguration of the Opéra Bastille in 1989. On January 29 2018, the announcement of the 2018/2019 season takes on a particular significance…

Between repertoire and creation, the Paris Opera looks back over 350 years of history. From Scarlatti’s Primo Omicidio to Michael Jarrell’s Bérénice, a world premiere commissioned by the Paris Opera, the 2018/2019 season proposes a voyage through several centuries of the House’s opera and ballet history. In a few selected fragments – following a practice popular in the century of the Royal Academy of Music! – music and dance offer us a cross-section of this history, pricking our curiosity here and there.
