350 years Launching of the new season and 350th anniversary of the Paris Opera 350 years Launching of the new season and 350th anniversary of the Paris Opera In 2019, the Paris Opera will be celebrating a double anniversary: that of the signing, in 1669, of the letters patent authorizing Perrin to establish an Academy of Opera – rapidly named the Royal Academy of Music – and that of the inauguration of the Opéra Bastille in 1989. On January 29 2018, the announcement of the 2018/2019 season takes on a particular significance… Between repertoire and creation, the Paris Opera looks back over 350 years of history. From Scarlatti’s Primo Omicidio to Michael Jarrell’s Bérénice, a world premiere commissioned by the Paris Opera, the 2018/2019 season proposes a voyage through several centuries of the House’s opera and ballet history. In a few selected fragments – following a practice popular in the century of the Royal Academy of Music! – music and dance offer us a cross-section of this history, pricking our curiosity here and there.
